Wednesday night, Concordia won its third-straight home contest to improve to 12-9 and 9-6 in conference play. The Eagles outshot the Argonauts in all three categories and were led by reigning PacWest player of the week
Michaela Vanderklugt, who posted 27 points.
Quarters 1 & 2: Both teams had trouble scoring early, but after almost three minutes of play, Vanderklugt cracked it open with a layup. Tied at nine apiece, Notre Dame De Namur pushed a 10-3 run for a six-point lead leaving the first quarter. In the second period, the Eagles out scored their opponent 23-12 to reclaim control. The scoring started with
Montana Walters, who knocked down two three-pointers. Vanderklugt added one for herself and freshman
Kennedy Fulcher added a basket. Points from
Reilly Walsh and
Sopavy Seng helped the Eagles build a five point advantage going into the break.
Quarters 3 & 4: Walsh and Fulcher came alive early into the third quarter with shots from behind the arch for an 11-point lead. A duo of layups from
Portia Neale extended the Eagle lead to 15 and Concordia maintained the double-digit difference until the fourth. The Argonauts chipped away at Concordia and came within nine, but the Eagles went 17-24 at the line to secure the 82-71 victory.
Eagles Eye: Vanderklugt's 27 points were accompanied by nine rebounds, one assist and one steal. Fulcher posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds with two assists and two steals. Walters tallied 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Seng chipped in 12 points, four steals and three rebounds.
What's Next: Saturday, the Eagles rematch Chaminade University at 5:30 p.m. in Irvine, Calif. The teams met already in November, where the Eagles defeated the Silverswords 65-47. Chaminade is 2-14 and 2-12 in conference.
