Martin and Collins homer in first PacWest win

IRVINE, Calif. — Eagles Men's Baseball hosted the Academy of Art Urban Knights at Eagles field on Thursday afternoon for a PacWest home opening victory. Chris Martin and Bailey Collins ripped a home run each in the second inning that led the Eagles to a 7-5 win.

Carpenter Pagett started on the hill pitching two innings and striking out one Urban Knight. Relieving Pagett was Freshman LHP Will Cohen (2-0). Cohen pitched the remaining seven innings giving up just four hits and one run.

Urban Knights lead early: The top of the first inning proved trouble for the Eagles allowing three runs from four hits. Pagett wiggled his way out of the half inning with a strikeout. In the bottom, Martin got on base with a walk and was later knocked in with a hard hit ball, by Nick Grimes, through the third baseman's legs.

Concordia cracks it open: After another Academy of Art run in the second, Concordia fought back with five. Tony Garcia III got on base with a single to left field and Dominic Castro dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Garcia into scoring position. Martin smacked a home run over the right field fence to score Garcia and bring the Eagles within one run of the Urban Knights. Haloa Dudoit got a bunt down for a base hit and was moved to second when Davis Tominaga was hit by the pitch. Collins went yard to right field to knock in three RBI's and take the lead 6-4. Academy of Art scored a final run in the fourth inning courtesy of an RBI single from J. Carlin. Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles, Tominaga singled to right field to score Castro.

Coming Up: Eagles Baseball (4-11, 1-4 PWC) returns to Eagles Field in search of its second PacWest win on Thursday March 2 at 2 p.m. Academy of Art Baseball looks to avenge its first series loss against Concordia.
