IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia Women's Water Polo Team fell to No. 17 Princeton in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday. The Eagles put up a fight in the second half but could not overcome the Tigers and dropped the contest by a final of 14-9.
The Eagles were held to just two goals in the first half and were outscored by Princeton 6-2. Elena Isogawa scored the lone goal for CUI in the first period with an assist from Shannon Graham. Lindsey Heaney did her part in the second, assisted by Isogawa, but the Eagles faced a deficit of 6-2 at the half.
Corbin Bricks cut the Tiger lead to three with a goal at the 5:58 mark in the third quarter. Kelley Geurts assisted on the goal. Bricks found success again less than two minutes later after utilizing a pass from Sierra Venegas. Ramsie Haskell chipped in goal with help from Katharine Leese before Heaney and Hanna Jordan went back-to-back to bring CUI within three, trailing 10-7 with 1:22 remaining in the frame.
Bricks continued to find holes for the Eagles, finding the back of the net on a pass from Isogawa half way through the fourth period. Princeton answered with three straight before Dailynn Santoro scored with seven seconds remaining to bring the score to 14-9 in favor of the Tigers.
The Eagles take the rest of the week off before facing Brown next Wednesday, Mar. 28 at home. The contest is slated for 1:30 p.m. at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
