IRVINE, Calif. — Eagles Baseball (6-13, 3-6 PWC) continued its home stand on Thursday with the first of a four game PacWest series against the Holy Names University Hawks (4-10, 0-5 PWC). Concordia got on the board in the first inning for an early lead and continued to attack offensively through eight and a half innings coming out on top with a 9-6 win.
Leading the charge, Davis Tominaga went 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI's and a walk. Sophomore Alex DiMascio also went 2-for-4 and knocked in two RBI's of his own. Haloa Dudoit went 2-for-3 on the day with two walks and a triple. Bailey Collins hit a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the deal.
Alex Zalasky started on the hill for the Eagles and managed his third win of the season, first in PacWest play. The sophomore LHP threw 6.2 innings and struck out two Hawks. Morgan Brannock notched his first save of the season after pitching two innings and allowing just one hit.
In the first inning, Dudoit got on base with a walk and was followed by Holland who reached on an error. Tominaga hit a double to bring in Dudoit and get the Eagles on the board. Dimascio hit a single to knock in Tominaga and Holland. Concordia led Holy Names 3-0 after the first inning.
The Hawks put one up in the second inning but were held off by Eagles defense. In the bottom of the third inning, Tominaga hit his second double of the game to bring Collins and Dudoit home for a 5-1 Eagle lead. Holy Names had enough of Tominaga and intentionally walked him later in the bottom of the fifth. The Eagles grabbed two more runs in the sixth inning and rounded out the scoring in the eighth with a home run from Collins.
Heading into game two of the four game series on Friday, the Eagles have a 9-6 win under their belt and look to repeat. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Eagles Field.
