Men's Volleyball nets four All-MPSF Conference Accolades

In its first year in the MPSF, the Concordia Men's Volleyball Team made a lasting impression. Despite being predicted to finish last in the conference by the preseason  poll, they defeated top ranked opponents and finished fourth. Their season was highlighted by upset wins over Div. I powerhouses such as BYU, Stanford, CSUN, USC, Grand Canyon University and Loyola Chicago. In addition to hosting the MPSF quarterfinals Saturday night, the Eagles earned four All-MPSF accolades. Jacob Weiser, Chandler Gibb, Raymond Barsemian and Hunter Howell were each earned MPSF-All Conference Honors.

Weiser: Senior Weiser was the lone libero named to the All-MPSF Second Team. Weiser's scrappy defense and consistent serve receive provided a consistent presence for the Eagles in the back row and challenged the top offenses in the country. Weiser led the conference with 3.19 digs per set and total digs. In conference play, Weiser tallied 137 digs, and is the only player in the conference in triple digits. The libero recorded double-digit digs in 12 matches this year and posted a career high 17 digs in the four set victory over the Trojans. He was named MPSF Defender of the week once.

Gibb: Gibb's play not only landed him on the MPSF Conference Second Team and MPSF Player of the Week once, but made him CUI's all-time leader in career assists in just his junior season. Gibb is fourth in the conference in assists (430), assists per set (10) and fourth in digs per set (1.98). The setter posted a season high 56 assists in the five set win over UC San Diego while adding 32 kills, 12 aces and 57 blocks on the season.

Barsemian: In his first season as an Eagle, high flyer Barsemian led the Eagles in points and points per set and grabbed Second Team All-Conference Recognition. The outside hitter is top 10 in kills per set (3.19), kills (137), aces per set (.13) and points per set (3.95). The sophomore posted a career high of 18 kills in a single match in the Eagle wins over BYU and Loyola University Chicago.

Howell: Howell established himself as one of the top blockers in the country, posting 1.05 blocks per set and 45 total. His offensive contributions stood out too. The middle blocker had a conference attack percentage of .338 with 148. In MPSF competition, he hit a season high 17 kills (.529) against Stanford. Howell posted 20 kills in the match over Hope International with a whopping .643 hitting percentage. He also posted a season high 10 blocks against CSUN.

What's Next: The No. 5 Eagles take one the No. 5 Grand Canyon Lopes Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Irvine, Calif. This year, the Eagles and Lopes split 1-1 during regular season play. Saturday's match will be streamed through the MPSF
