WAIPAHU, Hawai'i — Concordia Baseball headed on a 10 day Hawaiian road trip with intent to defeat PacWest foe's Hawaii Pacific University and Hawaii Hilo. In the doubleheader to kick off the first series, the Eagles dropped both games to the Hawaii Pacific Sharks, 6-0 and 10-9.
Game One: The Eagles bats knocked six hits but came up just short of the contact needed to drive runs across the plate. Back in his element, Hawaii native Haloa Dudoit led the Eagles in game one with three hits in four at-bats. Nick Grimes and Bailey Collins went 1-for-4 on the day while Chris Martin went 1-for-3.
Neil Lang took the ball to the mound through six innings for Concordia. The senior allowed just three earned runs, eight hits, and struck out one Shark. Lang was relieved by Morgan Brannock who threw two innings, gave up three runs and struck out two Sharks. Lang received the loss for game one.
Game Two: Eagles baseball found a rhythm in game two and scored nine runs on just eight hits. Alex DiMascio went 2-for-4 and Dillon Millar went 1-for-1 with two walks. Cade Temple started on the hill throwing three innings and allowed four hits and three runs. The bullpen showed depth with five pitchers following Temple, one being Jason McLellan who received the loss in the ninth.
In the third and fourth innings, Concordia put two runs on the board after Millar scored on a passed ball and hit a sacrifice fly to score Hunter Holland. Scoring next in the sixth inning, Juan Zuniga singled through the left side to score Holland, Chris Martin scored on a passed ball and Zuniga was walked in.
Then, Collins was hit by the pitch to score Millar, and Dimascio doubled down the right field line to score Dudoit. Concordia had the lead 8-6 heading into the seventh inning. The ninth inning ended up being the defining moment for the Eagles and the Sharks. Dominic Castro tripled to bring Millar across the plate, Eagles still lead 9-7. Hawaii Pacific scored three runs in the ninth inning from two wild pitches and a single to take game two, 10-9.
