Gordon’s Hat Trick Helps Concordia Claim PacWest Opener

Led by the dynamic duo of Elijah Amadin and Connor Gordon, the Concordia University Irvine Eagles captured a 3-1 victory in their conference opener against Fresno Pacific.

Gordon scored a hat trick and Amadin assisted on two of the three CUI goals to give the Eagles their second win of the season.

Right before intermission, Amadin sent a ball into the box in the 44th minute which allowed Gordon to smoothly place the ball into the left side of the net.

The 1-0 lead did not last long though as the Sunbirds responded quickly in the second half.  Bruno Brumati would net the equalizer for Fresno Pacific but CUI would soon retake the lead.

In the 56th minute, Gordon and Julian Font worked a beautiful give-and-go to make it 2-1 Eagles.

The next 30 minutes were tense as both teams racked up the fouls and multiple yellow cards were handed out.

With just a couple minutes remaining in regulation and the Green and Gold clinging to the lead, Amadin surprised the FPU defense by facing his own goal at midfield and flinging a pass over his head.

Gordon split two defenders and reached the ball first before burying a shot past the FPU keeper to ice the game.

The reigning PacWest Conference Player of the Week has tallied five goals already this season.

Concordia looks to make it two wins in a row when Biola visits Eagles Field this Saturday at 1 p.m.
