The Eagles went on the road to play the Sunbirds in Fresno on Saturday, September 29. The Eagles were able beat the Sunbirds 3-1 with
Riley Gill leading the team with 15 kills. Shortly behind was
Patience O'Neal and
Jaclyn Brown with both 12 kills.
Hannah Tostado was standing tall with seven blocks today, while
Clarice Buchanan recorded 22 digs.
In the first set,
Clarice Buchanan went on a service run early in the set, taking the lead 7-4. The Sunbirds went on a run as well taking the lead by one, until
Riley Gill was able to stop them with a kill.
Brianna Latigue was able to get a couple aces to take the lead once again. The Eagles did not let off the gas, as they were able to take the first set with a score 25-21.
The second set was all able runs as the Sunbirds started off with the first run, while the Eagles would trail 7-10.
Ailsa Watson would go to the back line to serve the next few points as they would just be down by one point. A couple kills from
Jaclyn Brown with
Brianna Latigue serving, would continue the lead with a score 17-14.
Hannah Tostado would go another service run to take the lead 23-18. The Sunbirds were not able to come back as the Eagles took the second set as well, 25-20.
The third set was a different story as the Sunbirds knew they had to give it all to take a set off the Eagles. The Sunbirds came out strong in the third set as the Eagles would trail most of it by only a couple points. Towards the end of the set, the score would go back and forth, ultimately favoring the Sunbirds with a score 22-25.
The fourth set was in the Eagles favor as
Brianna Latigue went on another service run in the game to take a commanding 19-13 lead as the Sunbirds would make a few hitting errors. The Sunbirds would not come back from the deficit and the Eagles would win the fourth set on a service error, 25-17.
The Eagles are now 5-4 in the PacWest Conference and will play Point Loma Nazarene on Friday, October 5 in the CU Arena at 7:00 PM.
