For the second straight outing, the Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team battled on the pitch but had to stomach a tough loss by the slimmest of margins.

Concordia goalkeeper
Mac Hutchins made six saves Thursday against UC San Diego including two crucial stops in the second half to keep the game scoreless and force extra time.

But the Tritons were able to tally a stunning goal right before the horn at the end of the first extra period.

Christian Cordell converted off a free kick to give the Tritons an unlikely 1-0 victory.

CUI outshot the Tritons four to two in the first half and also racked up five corner kicks before intermission.

Concordia's
Elijah Amadin and
Connor Gordon had two shots apiece but could not solve Tritons keeper Pedro Enciso.

The Eagles return to the pitch this Saturday at home when Cal State Los Angeles visits Eagles Field at 1 p.m.

The match will be the second part of a doubleheader in Irvine with the CUI women's soccer team first hosting #25 Sonoma State at 11 a.m.
