For the second straight outing, the Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team battled on the pitch but had to stomach a tough loss by the slimmest of margins.
Â
Concordia goalkeeper
Mac Hutchins made six saves Thursday against UC San Diego including two crucial stops in the second half to keep the game scoreless and force extra time.
Â
But the Tritons were able to tally a stunning goal right before the horn at the end of the first extra period.
Â
Christian Cordell converted off a free kick to give the Tritons an unlikely 1-0 victory.
Â
CUI outshot the Tritons four to two in the first half and also racked up five corner kicks before intermission.Â
Â
Concordia's
Elijah Amadin and
Connor Gordon had two shots apiece but could not solve Tritons keeper Pedro Enciso.
Â
The Eagles return to the pitch this Saturday at home when Cal State Los Angeles visits Eagles Field at 1 p.m.Â
Â
The match will be the second part of a doubleheader in Irvine with the CUI women's soccer team first hosting #25 Sonoma State at 11 a.m.
