Eagles Earn Another Shutout In Code Yellow Victory

Irvine, CALIF. – The CUI men's soccer team took on PacWest Conference rival Biola University in the battle of the Eagles. Concordia's squad won the match 2-0 in the shutout victory on their annual Code Yellow match. The outcome proved to be a big one as Concordia had hopes of moving up in the conference standings.

The first half saw a few opportunities for the Green and Gold as the Eagles attackers Vicente Flores and Luke Ryan had five great looks at the net but were unable to convert on the opportunities. Concordia ended the half with nine total shots and controlled the tempo for the first 45 minutes of play.

The CUI second half wonders continued for the Eagle squad as Bryan Lopez and Erick Correa checked in and sparked the Eagles with some quick offense.

In the 67th minute, Correa received a beautiful ball from Lopez, slipped past the BU defender and placed the left footed ball right past the outstretched arm of the Biola keeper in the bottom left corner of the net to put Concordia ahead 1-0.

The Code Yellow performance was not yet finished. In the 82nd minute of action, Luke Ryan used his famous box out move and shielded the defender away to place the ball right in front of the net for the Eagles leading scorer, Caley Powers to power the ball through the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

The Concordia men maintained the defensive pressure they had been applying the whole match. The defense for the Green and Gold only allowed four shot attempts at keeper Mac Hutchins the entire game.

"I was really proud of the defense today," said Hutchins. "I had a day where I just needed to communicate mostly, and we were able to earn our second straight shutout, so I am really proud of the team for getting that done."

The defensive crew and midfielders for the Eagles worked in tandem to complete their assignments and earn the win.

"The men continue to find ways to win as a collective group," said assistant coach Erik Kirsch. "The win sets up a good platform for Saturday against Point Loma."

CUI earned their third consecutive victory with the shutout and will look to keep the wins coming on Saturday, Nov. 9th at 2:30 p.m. against Point Loma on their "Senior Night," the last home game for the season.
