IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's water polo team secured a 15-6 victory over Whittier in its home opener Friday to improve to 2-1 on the young season.
CUI's
Dailynn Santoro led the offense with four goals. Â She scored three in the first period including one off a penalty shot before capping the day with another score in the fourth quarter.
"I was really proud of our passing," said Santoro. "Everyone played unselfishly and it's a big confidence boost for us to get this win."
Madison Ravelo also had a big day. The CUI freshman from Cypress, Calif. contributed three goals and three assists.
Hanna Jordan,
Shannon Graham and
Lindsey Heaney each added two goals apiece.Â
Freshman
Mauriama Moore scored her first career goal for the Green and Gold in the third quarter to help the cause. Â Eagles senior
Emily Lawless also found the back of the net in the third to put the game out of reach.
On defense,
Siena Goggia was solid in goal as she turned away five shots before intermission. With the Eagles up comfortably by a 10-3 margin at the break, senior goalie
Ariana Olmos entered and helped hold down the fort in the second half.
CUI's next home game will be in two weeks on Friday, Feb. 22 against the University of Toronto at Woollett Aquatics Center.
