IRVINE, Calif. – Following a 4-0 week at home, the Concordia men's volleyball team is set to face a pair of top ten teams, one at home and one on the road.
The Eagles take on No. 5 UC Irvine on March 13 at 7 PM in CU Arena for the first game of the week. In late January, Concordia traveled down the road and took then No. 3 UC Irvine to four sets.
On March 16, conference play starts back up as the Eagles head to Los Angeles, Calif. to take on No. 10 USC at 7 PM in the Galen Center. Just two weeks prior to this week's match-up, the Trojans defeated the Eagles in a close five set match. USC was also victorious in the first match in Hawaii as part of the non-conference tournament.
WEEK RECAP:
Concordia went undefeated in its first full week of March, taking down four non-conference opponents, including a revenge match against UC San Diego. A total of 19 players saw action during the week, including quality playing time for many of the Eagle reserves.
Raymond Barsemian collected 41 kills and averaged 5.12 kills per set and hit .389, including a career-high 24 kills against UC San Diego.
Jordan Hoppe racked up 30 kills while hitting .347 in three games. Continuing to lead the MPSF in digs per set,
Addison Enriques scooped up 16 digs to put his season average at 2.13.
ABOUT UC IRVINE:
The Anteaters are currently 14-5 for the season with wins over six nationally ranked teams. Recently they traveled to Provo and split the two-match series with BYU. Ranking fourth in the Big West, UCI is led by sophomore Joel Schneidmiller who averages 3.64 kills per set and senior David Parker who ranks third with 2.29 digs per set. Also featured in the starting line-up is the current Big West Freshman of the Week Alexandre Nsakanda who averaged 3.57 kills per set, including a career-high 14 in night one against the Cougars.
ABOUT USC:
The Trojans picked up consecutive five set victories in the Pac-12/Big 10 Showcase against Ohio State and Penn State. Reigning MPSF Player of the Week Ryan Moss led the team as he averaged 4.50 kills per set and hit .514 for the week. Setter Chris Hall ranks third in the conference with 9.79 assists per set while Moss ranks in the top three in kills and points and top six in hitting percentage. USC is 11-7 for the season and sits right above Concordia at fifth in the conference.
