Concordia Swept in Match-Up Against Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, ARIZ. - The Eagles would travel to Arizona in hopes to sweep the series against Grand Canyon University, with beating them in four sets at the last meeting in the beginning of February. 

The Lopes came out strong in the first set taking an early lead from the Eagles. A couple kills from Jordan Hoppe and Raymond Barsemian would take Concordia within four at a media timeout. Kills from Hoppe and Barsemian right out of the timeout would bring the Eagles within two points from the Lopes. THe Eagles would not be able to come back from the deficit in the first set, falling 18-25. 

CUI came out fighting in the second set, getting a break with GCU making a few errors out of the gate. A service ace from Zachary Meyer and a kill from the setter, Chandler Gibb would give the Eagles the lead by one point. A couple kills from Hoppe and Luke Krzmarzick would keep the Eagles with a 12-9 lead. The Lopes would turn around, getting the next three points to tie the game, forcing the Eagles to take their first timeout at 12-12. With Barsemian back in the game, GCU would make a couple unforced errors, keeping the game tied throughout the rest of the set. The Eagles would take their final timeout after the Lopes would get a service ace and take a one point lead. Hoppe would go to the back line and serve an ace, forcing the Lopes to take their first timeout of the set. The Lopes were able to finish out the set with a couple kills finishing the set 23-25. 

The third set was no different from the second as the score would continue to go back and forth. After a CUI timeout, Noah Lassandro and Jonathan Carlson would come back to record a couple kills to bring them back within two. Late in the game, a couple service errors from the Lopes would keep the Eagles within one. Kills from Hoppe and Darcy Taig would keep the set tied at 23 all. GCU was able to finish the match with winning the next two points, defeated CUI by another close score 23-25. 

Jordan Hoppe would lead the Eagles on the night with ten kills and six digs. Hunter Howell would record six kills, hitting .500 during the three set match. Barsemian and Meyer would both collect five kills. Chandler Gibb would rack up another 28 assists, with Addison Enriques leading the team with seven digs.

The Eagles will continue their travel in Arizona and face Ottawa Arizona, who is 13-7 on the season and play them on Saturday, March 23 at 11AM.
