PHOENIX, ARIZ. - After the game from last night against Grand Canyon, Concordia would bounce back and play Ottawa and Benedictine-Mesa today. CUI would defeat both teams in previous match-ups, giving the opposing teams another rematch.
Game 1: Concordia 3, Ottawa Arizona 0
OUAZ would come out in the first set taking an early 0-4 lead, with CUI catching a break on a couple of missed serves. A few more unforced errors from from the Spirit would continue to get the Eagles closer, with
Zachary Meyer and
Hunter Howell getting kills to bring the score 9-16. Five more errors from the Spirit and a kill from
Luke Krzmarzick would bring the Eagles within two, getting right back into the game on the Spirit hitting and service errors. Kills from Meyer and
Jordan Hoppe would tie the game later with a score 21 all. Two consecutive points from the Eagles, Krzmarzick with a kill and an ace from
Hunter Howell would force the Spirit with a timeout, as the Eagles were in the lead with set point 24-23. Just when OUAZ thought they were going to take the lead, Krzmarzick and Meyer would smack down a couple kills to keep CUI in the lead by one.
Chandler Gibb would finish out the set with a kill, winning 31-29.
The Eagles would put up a dominating performance as they would hold the Spirit to scored 13 and 15 in the last two sets. Concordia would not allow Ottawa to go on a run allowing more than two consecutive points. They were able to hold OUAZ to hitting below .200 the entire match, with CUI being able to hit .270 in the first match and .300 and above in the last two sets.
Meyer led the team with seven kills, two aces, and had five digs on the match. Right behind Meyer was Krzmarzick with six kills and five blocks.
Noah Lassandro led the team with six blocks and going three-for-four, hitting .750.
Erik Boisvert,
Parker Maki,
Bailey Mundy, and
Darcy Taig would all come into the game playing at least one set, being able to at least rack up two or more kills.
Chandler Gibb would dish out 19 assists, while Isaiah Pono Kaaa would have seven.
Game 2: Concordia 3, Benedictine-Mesa 2
As the Eagles would just finish the first game against Ottawa Arizona, they would head right back on the court to play Benedictine-Mesa. Benedictine would fight back hard for that rematch against Concordia, but Concordia would ultimately prevail, beating them in a five set thriller.
The Eagles would go down the first two sets, keeping the scores close finishing 23 and 21. Although the Eagles hitting percentages would be higher every match, including the first two, the Redhawks would be able to outlast the Eagles in the first two sets. The next two sets were all in favor for Concordia as they would be able to defeat Benedictine with close scores yet again 19 and 23. The Eagles were able to keep their hitting errors to a minimal six, combined in both third and forth set. The fifth set was no match for the Redhawks as the Eagles would be able to keep their momentum going, winning by a close score 15-12.
Raymond Barsemian would have a dominating performance, finishing the game with 23 kills and five digs, while
Jordan Hoppe would be followed behind with 16 kills, two aces, and seven digs.
Hunter Howell would also collect seven kills and two solo blocks during the match, with
Luke Krzmarzick getting nine kills.
Zachary Meyer and
Noah Lassandro would both rack up five kills each.
Chandler Gibb would have a tremendous day dishing out 57 assists during this match.
The Eagles will host Hawaii Tuesday, March 26 at 7PM in the CU Arena.
