Eagles Honor Seniors with a Win in Home Finale

IRVINE, Calif. -- Concordia baseball played its last home doubleheader for the 2019 season at Eagles Field on Saturday. The team honored its four seniors with a 1-0 win over Biola and dropped the second game 8-0.

Senior starting pitcher Andrew Stout took the mound for the Eagles in the first game. The Chicago, Ill. native hurled seven shutout innings, struck out seven, and allowed six hits.

"It felt great to get the win. My parents came out here from Chicago, so it felt good to pitch well in front of them," Stout said. "I thought about my senior year of high school and how I was going on to play college baseball and now I cant believe its over."

Morgan Brannock finished his Eagles career at home with yet another save. The right-hander faced three batters in the ninth inning and struck out one for his second save in two days.

"I've been here for four years so it's nice to finish where it all started, as an Eagle," Brannock said. "I saw all my former senior teammates go through this day and it's pretty surreal that it's my turn. This year was so fun, it was a great one to end on."

In the seventh inning of game one, Chris Martin II singled to right field. He advanced to third on the throw and Cooper Moore scored on an error by the right fielder to give the Eagles their sole run of the day.

Morgan Brannock

Morgan has pitched over 130 innings as an Eagle. During his senior campaign, Morgan has compiled a career-best 2.91 ERA. He also leads the team in saves this year.

From Coach Turgeon: "Four years have flown by working with Morgan. Morgan is as steady of a person I may have ever met and I have always appreciated the consistency he brings as a person and player. Very proud of what he has done for this institution and the love he has shown this program and more importantly, the love he has shown each one of his teammates and his family during the years."

Nick Grimes

Among his many highlights this season, Nick smacked the walk-off RBI single in a 4-3 home win over Cal State Dominguez Hills. He also scored the go-ahead run in the 10th inning in a key victory over then-No. 14 Point Loma. In the middle of the season, Nick was on fire at the plate, hitting safely in 13 of 14 straight contests.

From Coach Turgeon:  "Nick has brought a consistent work ethic and approach to the game of baseball during his time here at CUI. Settling into the hot corner this year, Nick has finished off his collegiate career on a high. His work ethic and love for the game will last for a long time in this program. Nick has a bright future and will continue to leave a positive mark on this earth just like he has for our Baseball program."

Nicholas Manago

A key contributor in the bullpen,  Nick set the tone at the beginning of his senior season racking up a career-high 6 strikeouts against then-Number 14 UC San Diego. For his career, he averaged just under one strikeout per inning pitched.

From Coach Turgeon: "Nick has left his footprint on our baseball program and institution during his 2 years on campus. His examples of putting the team above all have and will last with this program for years to come. Nick has cemented himself at the back end of our bullpen and will be missed. Congratulations Nick and thank you for the positive mark you have left."

Andrew Stout

A key member of the starting rotation, Andrew leads Concordia in strikeouts this season. He pitched a season-high 7 innings in a win over Hawaii Pacific and also notched a career-best 7 strikeouts against then-No. 14 UC San Diego.

From Coach Turgeon: "I am very proud of Andrew and the growth he has shown during his time here at Concordia. Andrew has been a staple in our starting rotation and always prepared to be the very best he could be. Andrew has represented his family and this institution at very high level in his time at CUI. Andrew thank you for being the player and man you have been during our time together."
