Eagles Collect 34 Hits In Doubleheader Win

ALAMEDA, Calif. - The Eagles headed to Holy Names to play the final PacWest four game series of the regular season starting with a doubleheader on Friday. Concordia had a dominating performance in both games, tallying 34 hits combined and won with scores 10-1 and 16-5.

Game 1: Concordia 10, Holy Names 1

Brett Vansant took the mound for the Eagles in game one and went 7.1 innings, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts. 

Matt Lautz started things off for Concordia in the fourth inning as he hit a double down left field, while Bailey Collins continued the momentum getting an RBI double to bring Lautz home. With Nick Grimes and Jair Donovan on base from walks, Lautz was hit by the pitch to have the bases loaded for the Eagles. Collins left right off with another two run  double, with Donovan and Grimes scoring. Alex DiMascio hit a two RBI single to the left side to extend the Eagles lead 6-0. 

Holy Names was able to put up a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to center field. In top of the seventh, Haloa Dudoit singled up the middle, bringing home Chris Martin II and DiMascio. Collins would steal second in top of the eighth and with a double from Cooper Moore, Collins would be able to score. In the top of the ninth, Jair Donovan smacked a solo home run to finish the game 10-1, making that his tenth home run of the season. 

Game 2: Concordia 16, Holy Names 5

Just as game one had finished with 15 hits, Concordia continued in the second game with 19 hits. Moore and DiMascio both hit and RBI single in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead over the Hawks. Holy Names would come right back at the bottom of the third with an RBI single as well as a home run to take the lead by a close score 2-3. Moore would get an RBI walk in the fifth with the bases loaded and a sac fly from DiMascio would have Lautz score. 

The bases would be loaded yet again for the Eagles as Lautz, Collins, and Moore all walked, DiMascio crushed a single down right field to score both Collins and Lautz. DiMascio and Moore scored from a single to center field from Juan Zuniga in the top of the seventh. Grimes reached on an error by the Hawks short stop with Dudoit and Zuniga scoring, taking a commanding 10-3 lead. Holy Names would retaliate with another two RBI single to cut the deficit to 10-5. 

Collins started things off for the Eagles in top of the eighth again, with a triple to right field. Moore and Zuniga both hit an RBI single, having Collins and Moore score. The Eagles were not done in the ninth as Lautz advanced to third and Donovan scored on a wild pitch. Zuniga hit a two RBI single to center field, with Kyle Fujisaki and Lautz scoring on the play. Dudoit finished the top of the ninth for the Eagles with another RBI single, bringing the final score to 16-5. 

Pitcher Alex Zalasky pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Nicholas Manago finished on the mound for the Eagles, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and collecting his first save of the season. 

Bailey Collins went 5-for-9 on the day, hitting three doubles and one triple. Alex DiMascio went 4-for-7, tallying six RBI. Juan Zuniga went 4-for-6 in the second game with all single hits and five RBI. 

The Eagles will finish the series against Holy Names Thursday, May 9 with another doubleheader at 12p.m. and the second one following around 3p.m.
