Schonebaum Hits First Career Homer, Eagles Split DH With ARTU

OAKLAND, CALIF. -- Eagles Baseball continued its PacWest four game series against Academy of Art on Friday with a doubleheader. Concordia took game one, 10-3 and dropped game two, 2-1.

Freshman Calvin Schonebaum knocked his first career home run over the left field fence in game one.

Game One: Concordia 10, Academy of Art 3

Eagles offense was on fire in game one with three doubles, three triples and one home run, totaling 15 hits. Matt Lautz lead the squad at the plate and went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a hit by pitch.

Concordia scored at least one run every inning through the first seven, started by Haloa Dudoit scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning. Two runs were scored in the second, courtesy of back-to-back triples by Bailey Collins and Chris Martin II. Solo runs in the third, fourth, and fifth, innings gave CUI a 6-1 lead.

The Eagles lineup attacked its hardest in the sixth inning. Singles by Jair Donovan, Lautz and Collins scored two runs. In the next at-bat, Martin smacked a double to score the third run of the inning and Concordia busted the game wide open.

The final Eagles run was plated on a sacrifice fly in the seventh, CUI earned the win over ARTU 10-3.

Lautz: 3-for-3, double
Collins: 3-for-4, two triples
Martin: 4-for-5, double and a triple
Nick Grimes: 2-for-4, double

Andrew Stout (W, 2-4) pitched six innings and allowed five hits and one run. Logan Mahaffy threw for three innings, allowed five hits and two runs.

Game Two: Academy of Art 2, Concordia 1

The scoreboard in game two was populated by zeros for both sides. Concordia scored their sole run from an RBI double by Dudoit to score Mahaffy as a pinch runner for Juan Zuniga. Mike Killeen threw 4.2 from the hill and allowed five hits and one run.

With ARTU's one run fifth inning, the teams were tied 1-1 and headed to the final inning of the seven inning game. A single, fielders choice, walk and a hit by pitch brought in the winning run for Academy of Art 2-1.
