SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - After the PacWest home opener for the women's volleyball team on Wednesday, they went on their first road trip of the conference to play Academy of Art Friday night. The Urban Knights prevailed over the Eagles after a four set battle.
As the first set started out, the teams battled back and forth while the Urban Knights took a 12-17 lead.
Gracie Rowland went on a seven point serve run while collecting three aces, taking the lead back 19-17.
Riley Gill was back at the service line to help the Eagles close out the first set with a score 25-21.
In the second set, ART U took a 4-8 lead until Rowland was at the end line again, going on another five point run for CUI, getting the lead back once again 10-9. The Urban Knights continued to fight their way back, going on three point runs until the end, taking the second set 20-25.Â
ART U came out fighting in the third set, taking a comfortable lead over CUI. Another strong service run from
Riley Gill earning the Eagles five points was not enough as they would have a hard time coming back from behind. The Urban Knights took the third set 16-25.
The fourth set was no different from the third with the Urban Knights going on a few runs to take a commanding lead, until
Hannah Tostado got a kill that would stop their seven point run. The Eagles were not able to overcome the Urban Knights in the set, falling to the final set of the match 17-25.Â
Riley Gill went for another double-double on the night, tallying 10 kills and 11 digs. The PacWest Freshman of the Week,
Mackenzie Jensen and
Kylie Breitenwischer both had eight kills, respectively.
Hannah Tostado led the team and set a season and career high of nine blocks with four kills during the four set match. Junior
Clarice Buchanan recorded a team high of 13 digs.
Gracie Rowland recorded 10 digs with some strong service runs on the night, collecting four aces.Â
