FRESNO, Calif. – The Concordia women's volleyball team picked up its second PacWest win on Thursday night by way of a sweep over Fresno Pacific.
Hannah Tostado delivered another solid blocking performance for the Eagles, collecting seven, which ranks fourth in program history in a three-set match. Four of her seven blocks were solos, which is a career-best.
Along with Tostado's strong blocking presence, Concordia put pressure on the Fresno Pacific passing and offense, limiting them to .075 on the night. The Eagles tied a season-best nine aces, three apiece from
Riley Gill and
Brianna Latigue, two from
Jaclyn Brown, and one from
Julia DenBoer.
Latigue had her first opportunity of the season to take full reigns of the offense, running a 5-1 and collected 27 assists, five digs, and two kills. Gill was one dig shy of yet another double-double with 10 kills and nine digs and
Mackenzie Jensen put down six kills on ten errorless swings to hit .600 for the night. DenBoer had 17 digs to lead the Eagles backrow and Brown had 11 of her own.
The Green and Gold got out to a hot start, going on an 11-1 run to lead 17-8. Three tough serves from Gill put the Eagles ahead 21-9 then a second contact kill from Latigue later put her team up 24-12. Jensen delivered to side out and give Concordia a one to nothing lead.
Strong serving from Latigue put the Eagles ahead 13-7. Later, Kylie Brietenwischer came in off the bench to spark her team with back-to-back kills to make the score 17-12 CUI. Fresno Pacific was able to make small streaks along the way but a service error from the Sunbirds at 21-20 gave the Eagles the green light where they scored five of the remaining seven points.
Tostado started the third on a positive not for CUI, with consecutive blocks to get ahead 3-2. Concordia held a lead throughout the set, but Fresno Pacific came within one at 17-16, until Brown went on a service run to go on a 5-0 run. To end the match, the Tostado delivered her fifth kill and Latigue served up an ace.
