CLAREMONT, Calif. - After coming off a two game win streak earlier this week against UC San Diego and Biola, the Eagles suffered their first lost on Saturday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by a final score 1-6.
Yassine Smiej and
Joel Ockernahl started things off for the Eagles in doubles. Going into the tiebreaker set, Smiej and Ockernahl fell short 2-7, losing the 6-7.
Marlon Wilken and
Patrick Wong paired up in the second doubles, coming out on top beating the Stags by a 6-2 win with the last doubles played by
Jan Simon and
Otto Heinz. Simon and Heinz lost by a score 1-6.
Sophomore,
Yassine Smiej collected the one win of the day for CUI as he forced three sets over CMS winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Patrick Wong competed in the next slot, winning in the second set forcing a third set on the match. Nic Meister from CMS was able to close out the third set, suffering his first singles loss for the season, 3-6, 6-1, and 2-6. The last slot for the green and gold was
Otto Heinz who forced another three set match on the Stags. However, CMS closed out the match with 4-6, 6-2, and 1-6.
CUI (4-1) will be facing two matches this week on their home courts at The Tennis Club at Newport Beach against Point Loma on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 21 both for a starting time at 2 p.m.
