Women's Lacrosse Goes 2-1 in Santa Barbara Shootout

Santa Barbara, Calif.- The Eagles women's lacrosse went 2-1 in the annual Santa Barbara Shootout.

On Saturday Feb. 15 the Eagles faced up with Nevada Reno.  The score was tied at half with each team at five goals.  Nevada Reno was able to break through in the second half and grabbed a lead to win the game, 16-6.  The Eagles put up a fight with Mallory Peters scoring three goals and earning one assist.  Celine Rios also scored a goal and scooped up eight ground balls.  Tamia Shoshone showed her ability as she went 6-14 at the draw.  Yessenia Alvarez was able to get eight saves and battle through Nevada Reno's aggressive play.

On Sunday Feb. 16 the Eagles defeated both the Stanford Cardinals and the Central Washington Wildcats.  The first match up against the Cardinals Amanda Morgan scored three goals and picked up seven ground balls.  Both Shoshone and Rivas scored two goals and swooped up three ground balls each. Jordyn Ludeman scored her first career goal and Alvarez earned six saves. The combined effort from the Eagles earned them the win over the Cardinals, 9-4.
The second match up was another win with both Peters and Morgan scoring five goals.  Ludeman finding her rhythm after her first career goal last game she scored two more against the Wildcats.  The Eagles had another first career goal in the Santa Barbara Shootout for Heather Hersh, who is a defender.  CUI outshot CWU 25 to 5 and the defense held them to one shot in the second half.

Head coach Dylan Miles was excited to have an overall successful weekend and is looking forward to what the future holds.

"The improvement we showed this weekend was great to see" said Miles. "Anytime you come away with a positive record in a tournament is an exciting feeling."
