Endersby Goes the Distance, CUI Splits DH with PLNU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - After beating both games against Point Loma yesterday in the non-conference doubleheader, the Concordia baseball team went down the coast to continue the four game series play in San Diego. The Sea Lions were able to take away the series sweep from the Eagles defeating them in the first game 3-9 and Concordia answering back in the second game finishing 6-1. 

Game One: Point Loma 9, Concordia 3

PLNU came out right away in the game scoring three runs on two hits in the bottom of the first. Cooper Moore responded with a solo home run in center field in the following inning, leading the Eagles with his fifth home run of the season.

Matt Lautz continued his momentum from yesterday's doubleheader with an RBI double down right field line to score Shane HershCalvin Schonebaum came in to pinch hit in the top of the ninth and hit an RBI single to center field, bringing home Moore, putting up the third run for the Eagles.

Mike Killeen (1-1) was the starting pitcher for the Eagles and pitched two innings. Matthew Williams and Henry Conroy both pitched three innings a-piece, striking out three batters. 

Game Two: Concordia 6, Point Loma 1

Jimmy Endersby (3-0) started on the mound for Concordia and pitched 6.2 innings, only allowing two hits and striking out seven batters in the box on the day. Ryan Johnston came to finish the game for the last out and was able to stop PLNU with only one hit. 

The Eagles put pressure on the Sea Lions early in the game, improving to 12 hits compared to the three from PLNU. Haloa Dudoit started things off for CUI in the first with a single and an error by the pitcher allowed Lautz to get on base, advancing Dudoit to third. Dudoit was able to score while Lautz got caught stealing second base, taking an early 1-0 lead. 

Lautz was up to the plate again in the third and smacked an RBI triple down the right field line to bring Derek Delgado home. Jair Donovan was up next, hitting an RBI single and taking an even larger lead over PLNU. 

Concordia struck again in the seventh inning with Donovan hitting his third RBI single in the game and Moore hitting a sacrifice fly to take a 6-1 over Point Loma. 

Dudoit went 2-for-3 while Donovan went 3-for-4. Designated hitter Moore went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double with freshman Delgado going 2-for-3 with two runs.  

On Deck
Eagles baseball will play one game against Westcliff on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Great Park in Irvine at 2 p.m. Concordia will host its PacWest season opener with a four game series against Holy Names on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29. Both doubleheader days are scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and around 2 p.m.
