Eagles, Warriors Go 13 Frames

IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia baseball team headed down the road to take on Westcliff at the Great Park this afternoon for its second match-up of the season. In the first meeting, the Eagles were able to take the first game 6-5, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth. The Warriors were able to retaliate and come back to win the game today by a final score 8-9 while taking the contest to 13 innings.

Both teams battled until the last out and racked up a game total of 31 hits, 14 for the visiting Eagles.

Bailey Collins went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two stolen bases. Haloa Dudoit had two doubles while the PacWest Player of the Week Matt Lautz collected a double. Cooper Moore was able to rack up a hit with two RBI. Freshman Derek Delgado and senior Shane Hersh were both able to collect two hits. Jair Donovan added two hits and two stolen bases. Philip Quartararo came in the game to pinch hit for the Eagles and smashed another hit, trying to get the momentum in the Eagles favor.

Noah McBride started on the mound for the Eagles pitching five innings and allowed six hits with two runs. Carpenter Pagett pitched two innings including the bottom of the ninth to keep the score tied and forcing extra innings. Pagett did not give up a hit and struck out three batters. Nathaniel Tapia pitched the last two in extra innings for the Eagles, striking out seven of the eleven batters he faced in the box. 

The green and gold had two big innings scoring four runs in two consecutive innings, taking an early 8-1 lead in the fourth. Westcliff was able to get some swings late in the game, scoring three runs in two straight frames to tie the game at 8 a-piece. The battle between the Eagles and Warriors continued to run until the Warriors were able to score in the bottom of the thirteenth inning, taking the win.

The Eagles start conference play this weekend as they host Holy Names for a four game series on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29. Both days will have a start time at 11 a.m. and slated for 2 p.m. following the first games.
