No. 14 Concordia Sent Back by UC San Diego in Rematch

IRVINE, Calif. – Just days after defeating then No. 15 UC San Diego on the road, the No. 14 Concordia men's volleyball faced the visitors from La Jolla on Tuesday night, this time on its home court. The roles were reversed with the Tritons coming out on top 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20).

Raymond Barsemian notched his seventh-straight double digit kills match, leading the way with a match-high 14 and hit .444. Gil Herold came up huge at the net, tying his personal best of five blocks, with two being solos.

After an early timeout for the home team in the first, Concordia pushed itself within three after a block from Jonathan Carlson and a kill from Barsemian to make the score 13-10. Back-to-back solo blocks from Herold and Darcy Taig gave them momentum moving forward. Taig continued his stretch with consecutive sideout kills to keep the team alive.

Concordia stepped it up in the third, with a kill from Hoppe and a block from Noah Lassandro put the Eagles up 6-3. Following a run from the Tritons, it was a battle between both teams. Parker Maki checked in and delivered an ace to tie it up at 21-all. UCSD moved forward, scoring four of the final five points to take the set.

Barsemian was the go-to player in the third, putting down five kills and was in on a block. The Tritons had a serve go long followed by a hitting error to put the Eagles within three at 16-13. A kill from Lassandro and another UCSD error pushed the game closer. Teams traded points towards the end, but UC San Diego found itself on top to complete the game.

Concordia looks to bounce back on the road, heading to Honolulu, HI to participate in the Outrigger Invitational, taking on No. 1 Hawaii, No. 4 UC Irvine, and Queens.
