IRVINE, Calif. - Madison Ravelo is this week's Newport Rib Company Eagle of the Week. The sophomore from Cypress led the Green and Gold with 9 goals, 7 steals, and 2 assists in the 3-1 finish for the squad.
"I am so honored to be named Eagle of the Week," said Ravelo. "I wouldn't be where I am now without my teammates behind me. I am so thankful and appreciative for all the blessings that surround my life!"
The Eagles played in the Convergence Tournament which featured the Occidental Tigers, Whittier Poets, Chapman Panthers, and the Loyola Marymount Lions. Ravelo managed to score a goal in all four matches of the week which included 3 goals and 4 steals against the tigers in a 17-7 win.
After the convincing win against Occidental, Ravelo proved to be mentally and physically ready for the next battle against the Poets. The sophomore sensation teamed with upperclassmen Dailynn Santoro and Lindsey Heaney and the trio combined for 10 of the 13 goals scored by CUI in the thrilling 13-12 victory over the Poets.
In the lone loss of the week against the Lions, Ravelo scored 2 goals, 1 assist and 1 steal. The match ended with the Eagles falling 11-13 but not from lack of effort and focus from the team. Ravelo and teammates have worked hard throughout the season to be at the highest level they can compete at.
"We have been working on being compatible with one another as well as our chemistry in the pool," said Ravelo. "This weekend we definitely accomplished that! The game against LMU was really close and we kept the game close because we were able to stay relaxed and read each other."
The CUI women's water polo team will be back in action at Santa Clara on Saturday, Mar. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
