CLAREMONT, Calif. - After getting two wins to open up the tournament yesterday, CUI was able to finish going 1-1 today and finishing the tournament going 3-1. Concordia was able to outlast Chapman, winning by a close score of 13-11 followed by a loss against Loyola Marymount 9-11.
Concordia 13, Chapman 11
After the first quarter, the Panthers were in the lead by one goal, 3-4. In the second quarter, the Eagles were able to score four goals in just three minutes, taking the lead at half time by a score 8-5. Chapman was able to score six goals versus the five that Concordia put up, making up the deficit by just two goals. The Eagles were able to hold the Panthers in the fourth, taking the win by a close 13-11.Â
Shannon Graham and
Elena Isogawa led the Eagles with three goals a-piece.
Hanna Jordan and
Dailynn Santoro scored another two goals for the Eagles while collecting a steal from the Panthers.
Kiara Espeleta was the starting goalie for the green and gold and allowed 11 goals with 12 saves in front of the net.Â
Loyola Marymount 11, Concordia 9
Madison Ravelo and
Lindsey Heaney started things off for the Eagles in the first quarter with two goals. In the second quarter, only one goal was scored from each team, with the Eagles down by one goal at the half, 3-4. Out of the half,
Josie Miller and Graham were able to score through the posts along with Santoro scoring the last goal in the quarter with only eight seconds left, cutting the lead by just two goals from the Lions. LMU was able to hold CUI to just two goals in the last quarter, falling by a final score 9-11.Â
Four different Eagles were able to score two goals off the Lions and were able to take away six steals. Espeleta was back at the net with seven saves and two steals during the game.Â
Concordia (6-4, 0-1 GCC) looks to pick back up being on the road for conference play against Santa Clara on Saturday, March 14 at 12 p.m. followed by playing Pacific Sunday, March 15 at 12 p.m.Â
