IRVINE, Calif. – For the first time in school history, Concordia University Irvine Athletics has been recognized nationally in the NCAA Community Service report.
CUI came in ranked No. 23 in community service hours out of all NCAA DII schools. The PacWest Conference was also ranked in the top 10 of all DII conferences.
To put that into perspective, prior to this announcement the Eagles have never been ranked in the top 100.
Five programs in CUI Athletics led the way by being ranked in the top 10 nationally for their NCAA DII sport.
CUI men's swimming and diving ranked No. 3 in the nation in community service hours while the women's swimming and diving team placed No. 4 overall in DII.
The men's volleyball team also placed No. 3 in the country in total hours volunteered.
In addition, the CUI STUNT program ranked No. 5 and men's track and field/cross country came in No. 8 in community service hours.
"I am very proud of the collective effort our athletics department made this year to give back to the community and advance the mission of our institution," said CUI assistant athletics director
Brittany Pereda. "Our student-athletes and coaches made a conscious effort and worked in conjunction, guided by our fantastic SAAC reps, to serve both our CUI family and the surrounding community.
Concordia also started a new tradition this past February by celebrating Concordia Serves Day. On that Tuesday, all day classes were canceled so that all students, coaches, faculty and staff could participate in a school-wide day of service.
