IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI men's basketball team took a tough break against PLNU with a final score of 71-83.
The Eagles went back-to-back nights facing the Sea Lions and were able to decrease the final score deficit in tonight's game. PLNU took charge in the first half and outscored the Eagles 36-51. The eagles were eager to take control of the game and fought hard to decrease the Sea Lion's lead. The Eagles won the second half scoring 35 to PLNU's 32. Unfortunately, it was not enough to fix the damage done in the first half.
"We have a lot of new players who don't know how to play together yet and we need to figure it out immediately," said CUI head coach
Ken Ammann. "The season is too short and we don't have time to waste. Point Loma knows who they are and they're clearly further along than we are. We need to get better and compete better next week and find a way to win."
Darius Lee had a strong performance with 25 points, 5 rebounds (4 of which were offensive), and a block.
Dominic Hovasse added 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Mac Stodart, a freshman, chipped in 7 points while
Jalen Sanders added a couple trey-balls and 5 boards.
The Eagles will be gearing up all week to bounce back when they face their next PacWest contender.
In a recently announced schedule change,
Concordia will host Azusa Pacific this coming Friday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. that day. APU will now host the Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 30 with the same planned start times.
