HONOLULU, Hawai'i - After a long flight over the Pacific, the Eagles prepared themselves to take on the Silverswords in the first of three conference road games in the Aloha State. CUI is coming off an enormous 3-1 upset over nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific last week, looking to secure their second conference win.
The Eagles had a strong start in the first half as
Elijah Amadin made his veteran scoring status known by putting the green and gold up a goal in the thirty-fifth minute with a headed finish at the back post off a deflection from
Jesse Cervantes. Amadin was only heating up as Cervantes secured the ball at the half-line in the 42nd minute, finding a perfectly timed run from Amadin, who made the almost 50-yard dribble to strike the ball with authority in the back of the Silverswords net, securing his brace in the first half.
Alex Perez wanted a piece of the scoring in the next half, converting from the penalty spot, scoring the third for the Eagles and his second goal in two games. Following Perez's goal, Chaminade earned a penalty of their own and didn't miss from 12 yards out. Unfortunately for the home team, Amadin was on a mission. With Perez leading the press, he found the ball at his feet, noticing an open run from Amadin on his left played him in on goal and the fifth-year striker earned the first hat trick of his collegiate career. Following Amadin's momentous achievement, Perez topped off the match for the Eagles with his second goal in the 69th minute, assisted by freshman
Koa Markham.
Two goalkeepers for CUI saw the pitch tonight, with
Andre Flores and
Kyle Miller collecting three and two saves, respectively.
The Eagles continue their PacWest road trip as they take on the Sharks of Hawaii Pacific, Saturday, October 16th at 10 p.m. (PT).
