CUI Game Concludes Early In Scoreless Tie

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i - The Concordia men's soccer team faced off against Hawaii Pacific in their second of three PacWest conference games out in Hawaii on Saturday night.  A tight contest wound up having an unorthodox finish.

There was no clear advantage for either team on the stat line during the first half, with both teams creating six opportunities in front of the opposing goal. It was in the second half that CUI was able to keep play in front of themselves more and keep the pressure on the Sharks.

Unfortunately, the match was ultimately concluded in the 75th minute of play due to two of the field lights going out, resulting in a 0-0 tie between the teams. Because the match passed the 70th minute of play, the game can be called as standing per NCAA DII rules.  As a result, the Eagles were frustrated they were unable to get more time to try to net that game-winner, but they also assured themselves of keeping their recent unbeaten streak intact.

The CUI men improve to 2-0-1 in league play and remain undefeated after three PacWest Conference games just like the CUI women's soccer team.

Freshman goalkeeper Andre Flores earned his third career clean sheet and scooped up two saves. Tyler Oakson and the defense teamed with Flores to keep the Sharks off the scoreboard and limit potential scoring chances.

CUI outshot HPU 10-8 and earned six corner kicks to just four for the host team but neither squad could tally that elusive first goal. Alex Perez produced two shots on goal, as did teammate Vincente Flores.

The Eagles conclude their Hawaii road trip Tuesday, Oct. 19 on the big island when they take on Hawaii Hilo at 5:30 p.m. (PT).  The women's teams play first at 3 p.m. (PT).

CUI is back home on Saturday, Oct. 23 when both soccer squads host Academy of Art for a home doubleheader with the women playing at 3 p.m. and the men with the nightcap at 6 p.m.
