HILO, Hawaii - The Eagles men's soccer team faced off against the Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo in Tuesday's PacWest matchup—the green and gold's last match of their Hawai'i road trip.
The Eagles have earned a 1-0-1 record in the past week with a dominate victory against Chaminade and unfortunate tie against Hawaii Pacific. CUI looked to bounce back from the technicality at HPU and leave the trip with one more positive performance.
After the first whistle, it only took the home team just shy of five minutes to score and gain the advantage early in regulation. With only 9 minutes ticked by after their first, the Vulcans put a second in the net, doubling their quick lead.
The Eagles looked to turn the momentum in their favor in the second half. It wasn't until the 80th minute when
Klaus Huovila was able to pull a goal back for the green and gold, assisted by
Luke Ryan. Huovila scoring his first goal of the season for the program.
Unfortunately, the Vulcan's defense withstood CUI's final offensive push to try and force the game into extra-time.
Concordia outshot Hilo eleven to six shots in the match, with
Elijah Amadin, Vincente Flores, and Huovila all collecting a single shot on goal each.
The men's soccer team is back at home in their next PacWest matchup against the visiting Urban Knights of Academy of Art, this Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
