HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team began their three-game PacWest road trip against Chaminade University Thursday afternoon on the island of Oahu. The Eagles head into the match 1-0 in conference play after their outstanding performance against APU last week.
The Eagles have been an offensive threat throughout the season, consistently outshooting their opponents each game. After thirty-five minutes of play in the first half, Sophomore
Layla Comeaux beat the Silverswords defense to the loose ball at the top of the box and fired a vicious first time shot that struck the net, giving the Eagles the commanding 1-0 lead. Comeaux scoring the first goal of the game and the first of her collegiate career.
Carmany Jones wanted to add her name to the scoring sheet after
Riley Walkington collected the ball in their defensive half and calmly playing Jones the ball, who effortlessly forced an own goal from the opponents, doubling the Eagles lead. Chaminade found a more threatening presence in the attacking third in the second half despite the scoreline. Still, CUI's defense held their ground, with Senior keeper
Hailey Asato earning her third clean sheet of the season.
CUI will get a day to rest before they kickoff against Hawaii Pacific University on Saturday, October 16th at 7:30 (PT) in the second game of their road trip.
