Eagles Stun Vulcans In Fourth Straight Sweep

IRVINE, Calif. – The streak continued for the Concordia women's volleyball team Monday night as they started the week with a sweep of the first-place team in the PacWest, Hawai'i Hilo. This marks the fourth match the Eagles have earned a 3-0 sweep over a PacWest opponent. The Eagles dominated the court Monday with scores of 25-21, 25-11, and 25-18.

Hannah Tostado recorded five kills while Jalyssa Sanchez had eight kills with both recording zero errors during the three sets. The seniors came up strong defensively with a combined five blocks and a solo block from Sanchez. Outside hitters Patience O'Neal and Kirra Schulz led the offense for the Eagles with 13 kills.

Recently named PacWest Player of the Week Brianna Latigue dished out 36 assists in just three sets. Latigue has now entered over 30 assists for the twelfth time so far this season.

Cassidy Gelacio led the Green and Gold in the back row collecting 17 digs with Julia Wilson contributing 10 digs, extending her double-digit streak to six in a row.

The first set was a close one for the majority of the set as the score toggled back and forth until Wilson went to serve and the Eagles took a three point lead. CUI did not allow UHH to earn more than their side out point from that moment on to close out the first set.

After the Eagles took an early 2-0 jump the first two sets, the Vulcans were looking to come back in the third. UHH took an early lead over CUI 4-8, forcing an early timeout from the Green and Gold. The Eagles slowly creept back into the set with Danielle McCasland coming into the third set to earn a kill go back to the service line. McCasland went on a serving run to take the first lead over the Vulcans in the third set with a score 17-16. Schulz was next behind the line and a couple kills from O'Neal and Sanchez extended their lead even more and shut down the Vulcans from earning any points. The Vulcans finished the match with a serving error to give the Eagles the victory.

The Green and Gold will continue their nine-game homestand and be back in action Tuesday evening against Chaminade at 7 p.m. and will also play Hawai'i Pacific on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. both in the CU Arena.
