IRVINE, Calif. – A pair of freshmen on the Concordia University Irvine swim and dive teams burst on to the scene last weekend with three wins apiece and were recognized by the Pacific Collegiate Swim & Dive Conference for their impressive performances.
Ryan Burke from the CUI women's squad and
Jonah Pohlmann from the men's team have been named the PCSC Athletes of the Week!
The duo showcased stamina and speed against the competition at the North State Invitational hosted by Simpson University.
Burke never trailed in the 200 fly and came-from-behind to emerge victorious in the 1000 and 500 freestyle races as well. In addition to clocking personal best times in all three events, her time in the 200 fly ranks fifth all-time already in CUI history for that event! She also broke into the top ten and ranks No. 8 now at CUI in the women's 1000 free.
Pohlmann also claimed first place in the 1000 (9:58.29) while making a comeback to win the 200 butterfly (1:56.39). Plus, he won the 500 free (4:48.91). He also led off the "B" relay in a solid 22.9 seconds to help that squad take second in the 4x50 free relay with CUI teammates

Burke and Pohlmann were phenomenal, but they were not alone.
There were a ton of impressive races and times from the CUI Eagles last Saturday, with the CUI men winning 12 of 15 events and the women posting wins in 11 of 15.
