IRVINE, Calif. - In Saturday's game the Eagles hosted the Cougars of Azusa Pacific University, looking to start their PacWest conference play off with a win.
The Eagles were quick to strike first as senior
Carmany Jones was able to locate
Jadenn Carrillo who found the back of the net, tallying her third goal of the season. The Cougars snuck an opportunity past the Eagles to tie up the game but neither team could edge the other before the halftime whistle blew.
CUI came into the second half looking to gain the advantage and keep the pressure on the Cougars. In the 58th minute,
Gabby Breton found
Olivia Ocampo in space and she set herself up to fire a shot towards the opposing net and it snuck right below the top bar, ending up in the top corner. Ocampo wasn't finished as she connected with Carrillo at the left side of the Cougar's box in the 78th minute, cracking a shot to the far netting and giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
The Eagles defense was able to maintain the solid lead and earn their first win of PacWest play with
Hailey Asato collecting 8 saves in the incredible victory.
