IRVINE, Calif. – Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season with a win in their home opener, thanks in large part to a 31-point performance from graduate student
Michaela VanderKlugt. CUI's win on Friday night was their first home game in front of fans in 629 days, as well as their first win in program history against Cal Poly Pomona, who falls to 1-3 on the season.
VanderKlugt, along with juniors
Katie Timmerman and
Jasmine Rachal, led the Eagles offense to the 81-73 win. VanderKlugt finished the game with 31 points, 14 rebounds, three treys and two assists. Timmerman collected 22 points, four treys, five rebounds, and three assists; while Rachal finished with 15 points, three rebounds, four assists, and shooting 8 for 10 from the free throw line. Sophomore
Sierra Clark also finished the game with a team-leading seven assists.
The team as a whole shot 50 percent from the floor, making 30 of 60 shots.
Next Up: The Eagles head down to San Diego next Friday for the GNAC/PacWest Challenge. They will face Simon Fraser on Friday at 11:00 AM, followed by a game against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday the 27th at 11:00 AM.
