Four Eagles Score in Double Figures Against Simon Fraser

SFU Hands CUI First Loss Despite VanderKlugt's Big Game

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Four Eagles scored in double figures in Friday's matinee with Simon Fraser University and the Green and Gold nearly pulled off an incredible comeback.

Playing in the GNAC/PacWest Challenge hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University, the Concordia University Irvine women's basketball team entered the contest looking to extend their winning streak to four.  Michaela VanderKlugt poured in a team-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting while SFU's Jessica Wisotzki led all scorers with 32 points.

SFU built a 19-point lead by halftime but CUI whittled that down to eight in the third quarter. Katie Timmerman drained back-to-back three-pointers to help CUI get back into the contest and VanderKlugt converted multiple shots as part of the run.

SFU however was able to regroup and hang on for an 85-75 victory to hand the Eagles their first loss of the season.

Jasmine Rachal helped the cause with 15 points and hit three treys and all of her four free throw attempts.  Savannah Felix-Amoroso added 13 points while Timmerman finished with 12 points.

The Eagles built an early seven-point advantage when Rachal drilled a triple to make it 14-7 midway through the first quarter.  But SFU ended the opening stanza on a 17-4 run to move ahead 24-18. The Eagles kept clawing their way back in to the game after that.

Concordia returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. to close out their time at the weekend tournament against Northwest Nazarene.  The Nighthawks defeated host Point Loma on Friday afternoon.
