IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team returned home Thursday night to take on the visiting Penguins of Dominican University.
The Eagles showed their eagerness in the first half as they dominated offensively, outshooting the visitors 10 to 2 shots.
Miguel Pena put two of the Eagles many chances away and gave them the lead heading into halftime.
Elijah Amadin created the first goal off of a great cross where a crashing Pena beat the defending Penguins to the floated ball and headed it into the back of the net.
It didn't take long for Pena to score his second goal after the green and gold were able to win the ball in the midfield. A quick Pena was able to impressively dribble through four defenders and strike the ball at the inner post, which ricocheted into the net, sending the Eagles into the half up 2-0.
The Penguins could collect an early second-half goal in the 51st minute, but their charge couldn't quite tie the game up before the regulation ended. The last half did not produce any goals for the home team, but they continued their offensive barrage as they found themselves outshooting their opponents thirteen to eight shots.
Two different Eagles collected minutes in the net as
Andre Flores and
Kyle Miller stepped in goal, collectively making four saves.
The Eagles improve to a 6-6-2 record on the season and 4-2-1 in PacWest conference play, heading into their final two games of the season.
