IRVINE, Calif. - Make it three straight victories for the charging Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team.
CUI notched a 1-0 win on Thursday at home thanks to great defense and a clutch connection that proved to be the difference-maker.
Recently named PacWest Conference Player of the Week
Olivia Ocampo continued her strong play by heading in a goal off a pass from
Gabby Breton in the first half.
Emma Lyon was also credited with an assist by helping with the buildup to Breton before she crossed the ball over the goalie and directly to Ocampo.
That tally was huge for CUI because it would up being the only goal scored in the entire game.
Goalie
Hailey Asato came up with a couple of huge saves to earn the shutout with her teammates. She finished with four total stops.
Together Asato and the CUI defense have now combined to post six clean sheets this regular season. That includes victories over Cal State Dominguez Hills, Chaminade, Academy of Art and now Dominican.
CUI improved to 6-4-3 overall and has won five of its last seven games. The Eagles are 5-1-1 now in league play and can still win the conference title by running the table and winning each of its remaining matches. CUI would also need Hawai'i Hilo to lose one of its last two games to pass them atop the standings.
