HONOLULU, Hawaii – The CUI women's basketball team won Wednesday's PacWest matchup against Chaminade by a score of 64-49, maintaining the lead throughout the entire game.
Michaela VanderKlugt led the Green & Gold offense with 17 points in the game, moving her into sole possession of third place in all-time scoring with 1,750 career points. She trails only Jamie Gast (1,785) and Gitte Mejer (2,177) for the all-time CUI record.
The fifth-year graduate student also ranks third in all-time rebounds with 949 after Wednesday's win, on the heels of Carrie Twaddell (957) and Gitte Mejer (973). VanderKlugt only needs 25 more rebounds to break the all-time CUI record. She is currently averaging 8.7 rebounds per game this season, meaning we will likely see her accomplish this feat before the new year.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead off back-to-back three pointers from
Katie Timmerman, and never lost the lead from that point on. Timmerman finished the game with 16 points, three treys, one rebound, and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Savannah Felix-Amoroso also played a big role in the win over the Silverswords, recording her second double-double of the season with 15 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
The Eagles have one more game in the Aloha state on Friday at 7:00 PM PST at Hawaii Hilo.
