COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. - This past couple of days, the Eagles Track and Field team took the long trek to the Rocky Mountains to participate in the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invite at UCCS. There was plenty of excitement in their first indoor meet of the season as CUI looked to put themselves to the test after all of the training they had put in the past few months.Â
The Eagles faced up against local competitors from Azusa Pacific and schools local to the Rockies, such as UCCS and Metro State University. Even though only a handful of the team made the trip out, each athlete gave it their all and provided strong performances in all of their events.
Porshe Eismann carried home the 1st place finish in the Women's Mile event with a time of 5:33.26, clearing the second runner by demanding ten seconds. Sophomore
Logan Nelson had noticeable performances, taking part in the 60m, setting a new personal record, and performing well in the 200m event. In her first meet with the Eagles, Freshman
Gabriella Hiraldo came up just shy of a new school record by 5cm but nonetheless provided outstanding results in the Triple Jump and High Jump events. Senior
Sarah Fajer finished second in the shot put event with a 12.90m throw, coming just shy of the first-place finish.
Senior
Gunnar Ashmon set three new indoor track personal records on the men's side in the 60m, 200m, and 400m.
Jaylen Newman put up good numbers in the shotput, starting his season out strong with a tied for the second-place finish. Additionally,
Angel Aguirre recorded a second-place finish in the Men's 3000m, and
Miguel Ayala followed suit with his second-place finish in the 800m event.
All of the participating Eagles gave it their all this weekend and are looking forward to preparing for their next meet on January 21st in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Eagles will have over a month before making the trip to attend the Prairie Wolf Invitational at Nebraska Weslayan.
