LA MIRADA, Calif. – CUI women's soccer out shot Biola but was unable to secure the game as they lose 1-3.
The women's soccer team had a tough night defensively as Biola was able to get three goals into the net. CUI has always taken pride in their defense and is coming off of a shutout during their exhibition game against
Vanguard where they won 3-0. Biola found ways to break down the CUI defense which led to the Green and Gold having a harder time protecting the net.
On the offensive end CUI was competing and fighting through a tough defensive front that Biola put up. Biola applied a lot of pressure and made it difficult for the Eagles to get succesfful shot attempts. The Green and Gold out shot Biola 16-9 with both teams having four shots on goal.
Gabby Breton led the team as she took matters into her own feet and earned the solo goal. The midfielder worked relentlessly on both ends of the field and got two shots off, one being a shot on goal and the other finding its way to the net.
"Biola played with high intensity and were quick to the press when defending," said Breton. "While we did have some opportunities to score, the pressure made it difficult to finish our shots. Scoring that goal for my team in the second half felt great and helped show that we could get through Biola's defense and finish our opportunities. It wasn't the result we wanted but there are things to learn from every loss."
Marianna Maldonado and
Jadenn Carrillo both got four shots off each as well as getting one shot on goal apiece.
Layla Comeaux and
Brianna Guerra also got two shots off each with Comeaux getting one on goal. CUI was working hard to get shots off through the wall of defense Biola put up, unfortunately this time around they were unable to net enough of those shots.
CUI is looking to bounce back against their next PacWest match up on Feb. 17 against PLNU. The Eagles will be leaving the night games temporarily to face the Sea Lions at 2:00 p.m. for their only day game this season. For the full schedule
