IRVINE, Calif. - Yassine Smiej of CUI's men's tennis team earned PacWest Player of the Week honors this afternoon after going undefeated in his matchups vs Point Loma.

Smiej has managed to win every head-to-head match this season as well as double matches alongside partner Mike Jansen.

With the dominant performances of Smiej and company, the Green and Gold have managed to stamp their position as one of the best tennis teams in the country. The Eagles are ranked No. 14 according to the ITA Division II rankings.

Smiej has been on a hot streak himself dating back to the ending of last season. He has managed to win six straight singles competitions, with no signs of slowing down.

"It is always an honor to get individual awards and recognition, but to be honest, I could not have gotten to this point without my team," said Smiej. "We are doing a great job this season as we are 3-0 including the exhibition match and have high expectations as we travel to Oklahoma for the Indoor National Tournament."

The CUI men's tennis team will travel to Oklahoma for the weekend from Friday, Feb. 26-28th, 2021 for the Indoor National Tournament. The Eagles will face Drury on Friday in the first round matchup and then their next two opponents will be determined depending on results throughout the bracket.

The No. 14 ranked tennis team will be back in Irvine on Friday, March 5th, 2021 to play Colorado Mesa at 1:00 p.m.
