Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Taylor Krouse

Two Nationally Ranked Teams Go Head to Head

IRVINE, Calif. – The women's tennis No. 22 Eagles ended 2-4 against the No. 11 APU Cougars.

The Eagles just moved up in the ITA National Ranking as they went from the No. 25 to the No. 22 spot! CUI women's tennis is currently 4-2 overall after the match up against the Cougars. The Green and Gold brought the fight as they faced off against APU. Three of the six singles matches went to three sets proving the competitiveness on both ends. The No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 spots in singles were taken by the Cougars. Heather Richards in the No. 4 slot and Taylor Lau in the No. 5 position each won a point for the Eagles. While each match in doubles was close Azusa Pacific was able to take the double's point as well.

"The doubles point is so critical against tough sides like APU and we felt that again today," said graduate assistant coach Lucas Taylor. "We had a few things go against us, however the girls adapted well to last minute changes in the lineup and were able to step up their games. The energy and positivity we displayed puts us in a great position moving forward. Today should give us confidence and belief that we can compete with top teams in the nation like APU."

The Green and Gold will have another go at APU later this season as they see them again on Apr. 1 at 2:00 p.m. Looking forward the Eagles host two more home games before they head back on the road. On Mar. 16 they Eagles host Chapman and on Mar. 17 the Eagles host Western New Mexico.
