The Eagles improved tehir overall record to 5-2 after their match ups against Chapman and Western New Mexico. On Mar. 16 every match was won by the Eagles besides the No. 6 slot for singles. CUI was cleaning house as they kept majority of the Chapman set scores to three or lower! The Eagles came ready to fight again on Mar. 17 against Western New Mexico as they held majority of their set points to two or lower! The Eagles are performing well and they are bringing great energy to their matches.
"I've been very pleased with how we've competed," said head coach
Jonathan Sanchez. "Especially from the women's program. We've been battling some injuries which has placed the team in completely different positions in both singles and doubles and everyone has really stepped up to this challenge. A few standouts are
Heather Richards who has won all of her singles and doubles matches in the past 3 games. I also want to acknowledge
Jennifer Jolin for her tremendous effort in yesterday's singles match versus Chapman, almost pulling it out at the #6 position 6-7, 6-7 (it can't get closer than that) she has shown so much improvement and I could not be prouder of the way she competed."
Heather Richards and
Alyssa Zayat have been holding it down in the No.3 doubles position helping to earn the doubles point. Richards has also been consistent with her wins in the No. 4 slot for singles as she won her sets 6-1, 7-5, and then 6-0, and 6-3.
"I feel super blessed to be able to play for a school like Concordia," said Richards. "Our team has continued to improve and carry a positive mindset into each and every set. Personally, I think the energy the team brings into our matches helps get the win!"
The Eagles stretch of home games comes to a brief pause as they are traveling to play at Cal Lutheran on Mar. 20 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The Eagles will then return home for a short stretch of three home games before returning back on the road. For the full Green and Gold schedule
