CUI Tennis Program Triumphs Over Cal Lutheran

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine tennis program dominated Cal Lutheran with both men's and women's teams winning!

The day started off with the men's team playing their doubles at 11:30 a.m. The Eagles fell short with the score being 1-2 as they headed into singles play. Due to Cal Lutheran being a DIII school they played under the Division three rules of each doubles match as one point. The Green and Gold went full force into the singles matches as they won each of them leading to the final score of 7-2. Yassine Smiej won in the No. 1 spot. Patrick Wong performed in the No. 2 spot. Benjamin Buck held it down in the No. 3 spot. Mike Jansen and Sofian Tayebi Alaoui won in the No. 4 and No. 5 slots. Adrian D'Aoust held up his end at the No. 6 spot.  Smiej and Jansen were the only doubles team to defeat their Cal Lutheran opponent.

The women's team continued the energy from the men's win as they defeated Cal Lutheran 9-0! The Green and Gold won every set, no singles match went to a third set. Jennifer Jolin and Grace Gorges started the round of wins off as they defeated their No. 3 spot opponent in doubles. Heather Richards and Alyssa Zayat were next winning their No. 2 position. Rebekah Anderson and Taylor Lau held the closest set and were triumphant as they won 8-4. Anderson and Richards then won their respective singles positions at No. 1 and No. 2. Tiffany Carrillo came in for singles play and defeated her No. 3 position opponent. Lau and Zayat held it down at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions while Kimia Rahmani defeated her opponent in the No. 6 slot.

This was an all-around grand effort from the Eagles tennis program. The No. 17 men's team improved to 6-4 overall while the No. 22 women's team improved to 6-2 overall.
