LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Concordia men's volleyball team were up 2-0 in the series against USC and was looking for a series sweep tonight. The Trojans were able to come out with a win in four sets with scores 26-24, 15-25, 17-25, and 18-25.
Many players from the Eagles team got to see the court tonight.
Jonathan Carlson had seven kills, five digs, and a career high of five blocks. The middles in the game included GIl Herold,
Jesper Schut, and
Owen Chun with collecting five blocks together. Seniors
Raymond Barsemian and
Jordan Hoppe each added 19 and 10 kills respectively for the Eagles.
Addison Enriques led the Eagles in the back row with eight digs and
McLain Mott dishing out 27 assists.
The first set was neck and neck as the score continued to go back-and-forth with neither team inching past a three point lead. The Eagles had set point but a couple errors from the green and gold allowed the Trojans to tie the game at 24 a piece. CUI retaliated with back-to-back kills from Hoppe and Schut to end the set by a close score 26-24.
USC took control in the second and third set, not allowing CUI to get back in the game while taking commanding leads. In the fourth set, the Trojans made a few service errors to the Eagles within distance to make a comeback. A serve ace from
Erik Boisvert brought the green and gold within five points. Unfortunately, USC was able to finish the match out without CUI taking another set to force a fifth.
Serve receive for the Eagles was dominate as they only had two receiving errors the whole night. Enriques, Carlson, and Hoppe kept their composure while in the back row with the tough serves from the Trojans.
Keegan Carey and Boisvert also contributed to the Eagles success in serve receive.Â
The Eagles are now 3-7 in the MPSF Conference and look to take on No. 2 BYU in back-to-back match-ups on Friday, Mar. 26 and Saturday, Mar. 27 with a slate start time of 7 p.m. for both in the CU Arena.
