IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team hosts No. 2 BYU for back-to-back nights in the CU Arena. In the first dual of the weekend, the Cougars took the match in three sets with scores 19-25, 20-25, and 23-25.
Senior
Jordan Hoppe led the Eagles tonight with 12 kills and five digs making that the fifth time he has been in double-digits for kills.
Raymond Barsemian had six kills and two aces.
Jonathan Carlson came in the last two sets with seven kills and no errors and topped a career-high four aces.
Jesper Schut finished with a team high of three blocks while
Mason Mullins came into the match and gained three kills for the Eagles.
Christian Oviedo and
McLain Mott dished out seven and 17 assists.
In the third set, Barsemian started out strong for the Eagles earning an ace from the back line along with a kill from Mullins to gain a 6-4 lead over the Cougars. The Green and Gold weren't done as Carlson got three aces in a row and forced BYU to take their first timeout of the set. A hitting error and another ace from Carlson bumped the Eagles within one point from tying the game by a score 23-24. The Cougars took their last timeout and was able to close out the match by a close score 25-23.
CUI will host BYU in their last match-up of the season Saturday, Mar. 27 at 7 p.m. and will be senior night for four Eagles.
