IRVINE, Calif. – Women's tennis made school history with the most wins in a season during the NCAA DII Era.
The Eagles are currently 13-3 overall which gives them the new record of wins during the NCAA Division II Era which was previously 12 wins. The Green and Gold earned this accomplishment as they swept Westmont 5-0.
Ghazal Pakbaten and
Rebekah Anderson won the No. 1 doubles match followed with
Camila Tumosa and
Alyssa Zayat winning the No. 2 spot to secure the doubles point.
After doubles the singles matches were smooth sailing.
Heather Richards, at the No. 4 slot, started off with the first singles win followed up by
Camila Tumosa who defeated her opponent in the No. 3 position. No. 44 Anderson earned the clinching point for the Eagles in the No. 2 position. No. 36 Pakbaten finished off the No. 1 singles spot to create the end score of 5-0.
"Having the highest win count of the D2 era is such an amazing accomplishment," said head coach
Jonathan Sanchez. "I am very proud of our CUI women's tennis team for their ability to roll with the punches and stepping up to the many challenges they have faced this year. Having the leadership of 4 seniors on the team has been a big contributing factor to our success this season as well. I think they have set a great example of excellence that will carry over for years to come."
