SURPRISE, Ariz. – The No. 14 Eagles had a tough battle against the No. 6 Azusa Pacific Cougars.
The conquest started off intense with the doubles being tied at 1-1 and the No. 2 doubles were the determining factor on who would earn the first point for their team. The No. 1 spot was won by the Cougars and the No. 3 position was won by
Gertjan De Wilder and
Benjamin Buck in an intense tie breaker! The score for the tie breaker was 7-4 giving creating a tie in the doubles at 1-1. The No. 2 doubles ended in a tiebreaker as well and Azusa Pacific was able to start off with an overall lead of 1-0.
The No. 3 and No. 1 singles positions were both won by the Cougars giving them a 3-0 lead.
Mike Jansen at the No. 5 singles spot was next to finish as he dominated his opponent in two and earned a point for the Eagles. Jansen's set scores were 6-2 and 6-4. The No. 6 singles player for Azusa was able to finish the game off leaving the No. 2 and No. 4 positions unfinished. Buck who was at the No. 4 position had one set under his belt with a score of 7-5.
The Eagles will now play for third in the PacWest Championships on Apr. 23 against Hawai'i Pacific. For the full schedule
